Yes, your phone number must be active before the transfer, and your current carrier must allow it. In addition, no pending issues regarding your number or current contract with another carrier must exist.
If you're on a prepaid or pay-as-you-go plan, your phone is likely unlocked, just as if your device uses a SIM card; however, the most reliable way to determine if your phone is unlocked is to call your current carrier and ask them to check your phone status. You'll likely need to provide your account password (if applicable) and your phone's IMEI number. You can find this on most phones by dialing *#06#.
Your service must be active with your original carrier before they release your number.
Yes. You will have 45 days from the date of purchase to activate your SIM card. Don't worry! We'll let you know before deactivating it.
